Wow, pretty big storm. People getting hurt, People dying, animals getting trapped and killed in collapsing barns, chaos on the roads, people having to spend the night in gyms because there's no public transport, ships sinking... it's pretty rough (I'm watching it all on TV). I'm almost feeling guilty for not having left the house all day! Although, I had to scoop our recyclebin from the street, which actually was pretty scary in the dark and howling wind with roof tiles and branches flying around. I just read that in one place 1200 trees were blown over. 1200! That's an entire forest!

It was my day off today, so I could heed the "stay inside!" notice the fire department released. I generally like to go out in this weather though, head for the beach. If you can keep the sand from you eyes, it's pretty impressive. When you lean into the wind and it keeps you upright... that's a cool feeling. Anyway, the storm's going to be over by morning.

The strange thing is that this kind of weather usually happens in october. I don't think I've ever seen this in januari! People on TV are discussing the waterworks (dykes etc) and how they're holding up. I've never worried about this. I live at the coast, but there's never been a wet spot in my house. There's been bigger storms, but still... stange weather this time of year. It's also been the warmest month of januari this century. Is this really due to global warming or just a fluke?

My brother, of course, had to go out to the bar. The moron.
