So much has already been said about the SPN premiere that I don’t really think I have much to add. For what it’s worth, I loved it and have seen it 3 times so far. Loved it! :)

As for the twist at the end, I think this can go two ways. I don’t mind so much bringing in Christian mythology (it’s already in, after all), but I do mind if they’re going to focus too much on the abstract concept of God. I don’t believe in it, but then I don’t believe in Wendigo’s and Bloody Mary either, so I’m willing to go with it, but I’d much prefer if God, like Lucifer, remains a mostly unspoken or at least ambiguous figure as to whether they actually exist. Angels could just as well be supernatural beings onto themselves, just like demons or a hell dimension could have been. Symbols like holy water and crosses work against the supernatural because of the meaning or power that is put behind it, just like amulets, silver or spells. Why do they work against the supernatural? Because something must. They don’t have to exist because God exists, but would be associated with God simply because that’s a link that people made over time. Either way, I’m not too bothered by that as long as the show doesn’t go into the wholesome, morality-driven, this is the absolute truth, conversion sort of storyline, which I doubt!

Kripke already established that most demons were previously human and not fallen angels (from Ruby’s lips). Will we get to see fallen angels (or have we already in the form of ‘special’ demons like Azazel and Lilith), and will we see the righteous ‘horror’ of angels (as in Constantine, The Prophecy, or Gaiman’s Neverwhere and Carey’s Lucifer, which rocked and which storylines I much more prefer than a perfectly benign creature). Perhaps Castiel won’t be so much an emissary of God as a rogue angel with his own agenda (which I do already think will be the case). If so, Dean is in for a huge mind-fuck. Is he on the side of good, or not? Will there be a Dean vs. Sam climax, or will the borders between what is right or wrong be more opaque?

When the demon-girl told Sam that what she saw was “the end”, then what did she mean? The end of demons, or the end of all? Perhaps Castiel is planning a scourge, a purification of the earth, a new beginning? Not so benign.

Meanwhile on the shallow end of the pond, Castiel had a great actor (hope he keeps this ‘suit’) and he did have that whole menacingly hot look going on. I feel confident that this season’s storyline can be great.

Dean didn’t look so shabby either for a corpse 4 months gone. :)

I look forward to this season very much, but first of all epi 2!

Oh yeah, I saw the premieres of House and Smallville too. House’s was boring. Dunno why I bothered. Smallville… eh. Did Lois really prance around in a French maid’s outfit and say “Oui. Oui.”? Oy. I do not understand why this show racks in more viewers than SPN even if I do eventually watch it myself (though the margin is decreasing?). Just. Do. Not. Understand.
