Legend of the Seeker

I finally tried out the TV series The Legend of the Seeker, or at least, I'm watching episode 3 right now. But I'm giving up.

I read the series by Goodkind, and though I haven't yet read the last book (Confessor) because I've lost the feel for it (I'll get to it eventually, to finish it off), I used to be a fan of the series. I loved the first four books. I thought Goodkind became too preachy and beligerent in his final few installments, and the Sues and Stues became really too unbearable (Jensen was jumping the shark), but overall, hey, I appreciated what he created.

I had doubts about this TV series because it was made by the Herc/Xena crew. Don't get me wrong, I used to watch those shows and I liked them, but they were pretty silly. Considering that Goodkind's series contains a lot of violence, torture, sex and mature content, I was doubtful that a Herc-vibe would do the first book justice.

Now, I forced myself to get over the fact that Richard didn't even read the Book of Counted Shadows (though, seriously, wtf? How are they going to fix this at the very climax of the book 1 storyline?). I got over the fact that Richard looks like a boy instead of the grown man he is supposed to be, and that when we first meet him there is 5 minutes of gratuitous naked chest. I got over the fact that he never met Zedd. I got over the fact that I hate the actor they got for Zedd (he doesn't look jovial or whimsically kooky), and that Zedd was supposed to stay behind. I got over the fact that Richard didn't feel any pain when he used the sword, and apparently has no lesson to learn besides the fact that fighting with the sword is cool. I tried to get over the fact that Kahlan was spilling her boobs all over the place, and could handily fight not one or two men, but twenty (why did she need Richard's help that first time?). I tried to get over the fact that D'Hara broke through the boundary with a catapult. I tried hard to get over all the slooooow-moooo.

Did they make Darken Rahl dark-haired specifically so he wouldn't look like Haldir? Cause pff. Or just because blonds can't be evil? Because blonds can totally be evil! *is blond* *is not evil...:(*

In the end, the double parter opener had plenty of momentum, the main info was delegated, and the set in play. I found Richard and Kahlan likeable and very pretty. They moved the plot forward and got Richard out of Heartland into the Midlands. The confessor-effect was pretty cool (though the Gar CGI was laughable; can they possible create Scarlett?) and Darken Rahl looked sorta menacing. I was expecting the 3rd eppy to bring them to the mud people. That could be a great story.

But the 3rd ep is a one-shot and not a plot progressor? It's a story of the week ep? It's evidence that the series will not follow the book plot but will be diverting from the main story to bring random PiPs and little useless plots into their lives that have nothing to do with the storyline and where they need to end up? Richard throws around the title Confessor but hasn't wondered yet even once what that actually means or why Zedd warned him he couldn't be with her? Zedd waves around wizard's fire just randonmly at anything? Every single pretty woman in this show will be spilling her boobs? I dread how they will represent Denna. Or Skoda. Will they even go to those dark places? Could they ever be dark the way this show is light-heartedly represented?

Only the 3rd ep, and already Joxer has a guest-spot in a completely made-up part?

I'm think I'm outta here.

I hadn't read the books but was thinking of watching the pilot when it came out until a colleague at work told me that the show was 'rubbish'. He was disgusted with it.

Ah, I concur with your colleague. ^_^

I don't think I'm going to give this show anymore of my time.
