I just watched the Lost finale. So far, the finales do not have me impressed... I thought it was pretty good until the end.

I know from TWOP that Jack isn't the most loved character, but I like him. He's my favourite character on the show. He's a doctor, he saves and cares for people, and he looks good while doing it. I like my heroes, flaws and all.

The finale: I love the Charlie and Desmond storyline (Des has quickly turned into one of my favs, and Charlie went out tragically but beautifully). I thought Hurley driving in with the van and hitting an other was fantastic (and proved his worth), as was his walkie-talkie talk ("Come in, Others!"). Sayid killing someone with his feet while bound and gagged was awesome. Jack taking charge, and beating the crap out of Ben, was great. Locke is alive, but what is up? What's up with this boat and is Ben telling the truth about it or not? (Also, no wonder they needed to get Walt off the island. If the events of the show has a time-frame of a few months or a year and the kid actor ages 7 years, that'd be a problem. Walt's voice was breaking).

However, by the end I hated this episode, because I hated the flash-forward. I figured it was a flash-forward from the beginning because they purposely made Jack look older, then hoped it was a flashback after all as the story progressed. Alas, it once again proved why I hate flash-forwards... I don't want to know how things turn out, that Jack and Kate both survive (so there will be no tension whatsoever in future eps about their lives being in danger), and that they will be rescued off the island. I didn't like Jack degenerating into a suicidal drunk/drug-addict because he isn't strong enough to live off the island where his import as leader defined him; that he has no definition without it. I don't want to know that neither Jack or Sawyer ends up with Kate or that Sawyer/or-whoever-was-in-that-coffin will die young and utterly alone. I don't want to know the future of these characters, because I want to see the series as it progresses! I want to see the now! This just takes the tension out of the entire show, which sucks! You can't even pretend it's an AU (like Heroes did in 5YF, which was amazing), and why did Lost have to go there and ruin it all? I wanted the last epi to be the rescue, and I don't want to know what happens to them after they get off the island. I don't want to see them falling back into the mundane, become petty, lose each other and the experience as would be natural. Leave something to our imagination and end in a high note. What am I to do with Jack now that I know he's going to be an utter failure in his life after he gets off the island? That he is abandoned and unhappy, that he has no future. Why not leave that open for the viewer to fill that in in the way they want? Why should I care for him now? What a waste.

As for the Heroes finale:

I am sorry I didn't get my wished for Peter/Sylar showdown (which was wholly anticlimactic after the entire season built towards it), but since I don't believe either is dead, I will continue hoping for it in the future. Also, I just wish they had been a bit more explicit in the end about why Peter didn't fly off himself or why Claire didn't shoot him. It would have been so easy to make clear that due to his overload all of Peter's powers were not working as they should, neither the ability to fly nor his healing - all combining to cause the power surge - and that if Claire had shot him he'd probably stay dead. This way, it wouldn't be about Claire wimping out even though Peter wouldn't really die, and Nathan giving his life where Peter could fly himself. Just make clear that Peter is completely helpless and out of control, and it would have been fine. After all, he was in proximity to so many new powers at once (DL, Niki, Micah, Molly, Sylar; all after just absorbing Ted's), it wasn't strange that he was overloading. I mean, I got it, I just wish it wouldn't have been so ambiguous. One sentence of clarification would have done it, or perhaps he shouldn't have been able to stand and hold conversations with people like the effort wasn't that much. Also, I think there would have been less disappointed fans about the Sylar showdown if he hadn't been killed so lamely. Hiro could have frozen time before running at Sylar and stabbing him. Sylar just stopped speeding bullets with the power of his mind, surely he could stop a tiny Japanese guy running right at him.

However, I really thought the ending was quite poignant. I loved Peter's dream and seeing Charles (who I suppose Peter got the power to dream truths from). And I loved when Nathan flew in, choosing his beloved brother over his political ambition and thirst for power, becoming a hero instead of a villain, for love, for the world, for Peter (who is a hero who by the power of his empathy, his unconditional love, turns others into heroes). He also saved Claire from having to kill Peter and losing her innocence. Save the cheerleader, save the world!

I just know that both Nathan and Peter will be back. They better! Peter's my new hero. I'm glad the bomb didn't go off so the future ep ("5 Years Forward") is cancelled - we're not working towards a set future, yay! (loved Badass Peter; really disliked Peter/Niki. The only reasong P/N was in there was because else there wouldn't have been a reason for her to be in the ep). On to a new future! I hope the next season won't focus primarily on Hiro. He is a great character, but I want more Peter. ^_^ The big bad Molly talked about sounded really menacing. I'm on for season 2!
