Oh, DEAN!

Well, I loved it. Could have done with less Ruby (still think she's a bad actress - though she did her best and it showed as compared to earlier eps, but IMO she tanked as Lilith. As a comparison, the creepy little girl was excellent!), but I loved how everything played. Dean's visions were excellent and I'm so glad for the continuity in that. Loved how he stabbed the demon cop, doing it on pure violent instinct. Loved how he got the knife from Ruby (and I'd like the show to explain at some point how she got out of that devil's trap!). Loved Bobby ("Family don't end in blood, boy!"). Loved how Dean was keeping himself together for Sam. Loved the goodbye ("Take care of my wheels. Remember what Dad taught you. What I taught you"). Loved that the show went there and sent Dean to hell. Was blown away by that final shot.

Dean getting ripped to shreds by the (thankfully invisible) hellhound was brutal. Jesus, I could hardly watch it, but it had to be in there. I also can't believe that we actually went down into the pit (I had not expected that). Loved the spiderweb/lightning visual. Could have done without Dean yelling "Someone help me!" (who? ya in hell boy), but his "SAAAAAAMMMM!" cry rolled chills down my spine, expecially in the fade-out. Yikes!

Also, as unbelievable as it may sound, I did not actually see the MEATHOOKS! until it was pointed out to me (and I'd scene the scene twice by then). Too distracted by Dean's anguished face, I guess. :)

I'm seeing some mumblings in fandom of disappointment in the predictability of the ending (Dean moving downstairs), but I don't have a single problem with that. Sure we could all see it coming, but come on, that's because the entire season had been building to it: it was the culmination of an entire season's worth storyline. If Dean hadn't gone, what an enormous cop-out that would have been; original, provocative ending as they might have come up with or not. I would have felt cheated whatever they might have come up with. Dean had to fulfil the deal he made. The agonised angst of his deal had to be culminated.

But now that he's there the deal is done: Please get him out now! :) No idea how they'll do it. If Dean getting ripped to shreds before Sam didn't 'make' Sam's powers save him, then what will be Sam do? I think that killing Lilith at this point wouldn't get Dean out, the contract is done. I cannot predict what the show will do, so I think herein lies the mystery: Not how to get Dean out of his deal, but how to get Dean out of actual hell. His body's dead, his soul trapped. WWSD? I doubt they'll keep Jensen out of the show longer than 1 ep, 2 tops (I predict Dean will be spat out premiere's end). I'm not worried about Dean-less eps. I do wonder if we'll see more of hell or not? Just as long as they don't let Dean forget what happened to him there (I want repurcussions! I want angst! I want denial and acceptance and hellish intel), I'm good.

Why, why do hiatuses, hiatusis, hiati, summer stops exist?!

It's been a season of ups and downs, some good eps, some really, really bad, and it does not hold a candle to season 2 (and though I know many revere season 1 as the best, I vastly prefer s2), but I love my show.
