I just returned from a 3 week holiday in Costa Rica-Nicaragua-Panama. Have spent the last days acclimatising to COLD weather, though am now plenty used to rain (at one point, it rained for 6 days. 6 DAYS STRAIGHT! That means it NEVER STOPPED. Not even a bit. And I live in a very rainy country so am used to something). Luckily the last 2 weeks had generally good weather, so we ended on a good note.

I got to watch the past 4 eps of SPN back-to-back, which is always fun.

4.04 Metamophosis.
Okay ep. Didn’t much care about the person-in-peril (or monster-in-peril) except that there were some pretty gross scenes, but the Sam/Dan confrontations were cool. Awesomely shocking when Dean socked Sam twice! Both had a point going, but I have to side with Dean. Sam should know how the powers corrupted the other psy-kids. Does he really think that demon Ruby is helping him out of the goodness of her heart? Bringing peeps to the ER? He must know that she’s manipulating him no matter how good the offer seems (using the powers to do good).

4.05 Monster Movie.
Loved it. LOLed several times during the ep, several more times on re-view. I loved the monster in his Dracs-guise, loved his little beep-beep moped, the pizza delivery (Does it have garlic? I have a coupon!), Dean getting some, big pretzels, the sloooow reach for the switch, the ear that doesn’t come off, and the whole atmosphere. I tend to like the gimmicky eps (I liked Ghostfacers too, don’t shoot me), and this was another big win for me.

4.06 Yellow Fever.
Despite my love for gimmicky eps, I don’t generally like the humor eps. Sure, sometimes the slapstick makes me laugh, but it’s an easy laugh, and I’d much prefer a good dramatic angstfest anytime. The problem here was mostly that 1. There’d been a comic ep just the week before, and 2. The promos made the ep look so deliciously angsty that I was salivating for it weeks in advance. I had no idea going in it was going for comedy, so the opening teaser took me right out of things (I just found it embarrassing too, just like the girly scream – far too over the top to enjoy). Imagine this plot if they’d taken it seriously instead of turning it into a joke for Jensen to mug with (well as he might do it). I think there could still have been funny moments without taking away from Dean. Would he really refuse guns (instead of completely loading up on them) or leave Sam (instead of dragging him out with him)? Dean running from a yorkie makes a mockery of his rightful fear of the hellhounds, which could have been chilling. I was hoping for some delicious nightmares, PTSD, and Dean slowly becoming incapacitated by the fear of having to return to hell, and Sam being there for him (yeah, I wanted h/c). Only the end with imaginary!Lilith had my interest. A lost opportunity if you ask me (and I didn’t even mind the whole “dick” thing because I never saw Dean that way nor do I think the creators see him that way, and I look forward to this secret in ep 10).

4.07 The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester
Average ep (which are generally good). Liked the angels, liked Sam falling off the wagon (forward momentum there), liked Dean killing zombies and his flashback, and loved the “ASTRONAUT!” (but especially the glare and Dean’s reaction to it). See, I prefer funny moments between the drama, just not to the exclusion of the drama. Life isn’t a comedy, but it always has some in between the rot. I think I subscribe to the theory that Sam will become the human vessel of Lucifer (himself being the last seal), but am still open as to how Dean fits in (as the opposition, the redeemer or the exorcist: Anywhich way, I like to think that Dean and Sam together will pick each other and turn away from the whole celestial game, whereafter the apocalypse collapses like a stack of cards). For now, I am willing to go with the mythology.

4.08 Next up the Wish Ep.
Another comedy ep. Seriously?

I need a humorous icon. *ponders*
