Wow, as much as fandom_wank can annoy the hell out of me, this one is truly justified: post of doom included here.
Anyway, some idiot fanfic writer decided it would be good to ask her "fans" for money to subsidise her year off so she can finish her fanfic... erm... didn't she get the memo when she arrived in fandom that making profit off of fanfic is ILLEGAL and that's what all the disclaiming is for and why no one else who is a ficwriter is asking for any money?
I don't like fandom_wanking poor people... but this sort of ignoramus really has it coming. Of course fandom is going to explode over something like this! Asking money for fanfic can bring trouble to the entire community and all the ficwriters involved. Fanfiction has always walked a narrow line; we're all stealing characters and universes and messing around with them. Luckily the creators generally acknowledge that we are the main fans, that we spread and keep awake interest for the audience, and that we all do it with a sense of fun and creativity. No money made; no infringement intended; no harm done. Everyone keeps to their own interest and we coexist peacefully.
But an idiot like this can ruin all that with such a moronic request. I've seen a fandom explode before over far less! *coughAnneRicethebitchcough*
Oh, and TheBratQueen rocks my socks: Boy can she rant the good rant. And everyone who flips off Rice as a bonus gets my vote for president. Makes me feel warm inside even after all these years.
