So I roam the interwebz with stealth, trying to keep away from SPN spoilers best I can (and definitely failing at certain points) and anxiously awaiting episode 1. This summer has flown by. Maybe because I had a bit of a taste of my own roadtrip through the States (New England). :)
I have immersed myself with fic, and there's still so much more out there. Damn, this fandom is prolific!
I wish I actually had something to say, but I'm off to... read more fic? Mmm, weekend.
Is it next week yet plskthx?

Date: 2008-09-14 05:06 am (UTC)(Never watched more than the Supernatural pilot myself.)
By the way, I finally caught up completely with Smallville. Bleh. No cohesive storyline that I could see, just things piled in higgelly-piggily. My disdain for Lana and Clark/Lana continues. I reckon Lois is just too old and her connection to the rest of the cast and the plot seems contrived. Chloe is the only 'real' girl there.
This blast from the past is now terminated. Good luck with your stealth mission to remain spoiler free!

Date: 2008-09-15 10:53 am (UTC)Yeah, I've pretty much said HP fandom goodbye. Though I'm still somewhat frustrated about the way the series ended, there's no passion there anymore. I do occasionally check in to see what's going on fandom-wise, and I'll always love the H/Hr pairing, but I hardly participate anymore. I just don't see the point. It's actually a relief to be involved with Supernatural where there's no shipping wars! I find the story of these brothers and their complicated lives and relationship much deeper and more satisfying than many romances on TV today. And, well, yeah, the leads are very, very pretty. Sorry. ;)
As for Smallville, I'm not very invested (the last 2 seasons have been pretty bad even within the former craptastic context which had its charm) but I do occasionally read some debate on the TWOP fora, and I see similar discussions there that I used to see in HP fandom. It's amazing how many arguments for Chloe/Clark resemble H/Hr (with Clark/Lois rather resembling H/G), where Chloe and Clark are best friends who know and need each other intimately, who trust each other completely, who are partners in crime-fighting, willing to fight or die for the other, and who have that UST-vibe going, as opposed to Clark/Lois (and leaving aside Clark/Lana, which just went on and on too long), where Lois burst on the screen as a feisty bombshell who succeeds at everything without working for it, which is just superficial in comparison (the Ginny book 5 lightswitch?). I find it amusing, because the writers are of course steering to the obvious, easy, Clark/Lois (whom are canonly-based destined for each other, so apparently characterisation or plot is not needed to make the relationship believable), while diminishing Chloe's character and writing her with a lesser sort of buffoon character who has little appeal to get her out of the way. It's all very familiar and makes me roll my eyes. It's hard to find much depth in media these days! :)
Nyways, sorry for going on (as I generally do) and for dropping by! Are you still mainly involved with Potter fandom, or have you moved on to greener pastures too?

Date: 2008-09-16 08:31 am (UTC)But now that you've drawn the parallels between the HP and Smallville romances - great stuff! I never thought to analyse them that way! - I can hold my head up even higher on preferring Chloe to the others. I'm glad I'm consistent in my preferences! :-)
there's no passion there anymore
I haven't reached that point yet. My hatred for HBP/DH still flows strong. I've been spending a bit of time in various forums on fictionalley.org, mining all the mistakes in DH. We're still finding some every day. It's amazing how many flaws that book has ... how many ways there are to find them ... and how so many people swallowed it without a murmur.
While it's waning a bit my primary reason for being in the fandom - reading fan fiction - still pertains. Although the quality stuff seems to be drying up a lot, sometimes I find a pearl or two. Cheers!
